View Full Version : Nero 5 & XP

Lynn
January 16th 04, 12:01 PM
I have Nero 5 which I wanted to put on my new laptop. I read somewhere
previously that I was to install Nero 5 and then go to the website and
download the upgrade to Nero 5.5 as that is the earliest version which XP
supported. I have been to the website but you can only get a patch from 5
to 5048 not 5.5. What do I do now? You appear to have to have 5.5 on first
then there are upgrades to that. I can't see a way to get 5.5 to start with.

Nero does not offer a free update from version 5 to version 5.5.

Visit http://www.nero.com/en/631933457317970
for an update for your installed version.

Beg to differ. Nero does offer a free update to 5.5 from 5, I have it.
Actually, what is offered as and update is a full install of 5.5 and will
accept your V5 key. But for the OP's information, V5 will run on an XP
system.

Thanks Carey, I did email Nero but haven't had a reply yet, but you've
answered the question for me. Can you confirm that I need 5.5 for it to
work on my laptop that's running XP home or would getting the upgrade to
5048 be enough.

I have Nero on my system, started with buying Nero 5 then have had
subsequent updates to the present one I have is 5.5.10.50 all at no
charge. You do have to do a complete download then re-enter your serial
no. but I have no problems with it on XP Home.

Last version I updated to was 5.5.10.54
You may have to still pay for Nero plug-ins to work with DVD R/W and mpeg2
rendering. And the native aspi layer in windows 98/98SE does not work with
the 5.X versions of Nero. Check the Adaptec website.

The problem I had when I loaded 5 onto my machine was that it asked me to
choose a recorder, (don't remember it doing that on my desktop) and there
was only 1 choice in the list which was virtual machine and I thought that
wasn't correct. Any idea whether it was and if not how I would find what
information it wants. My laptop has a 'combi' drive which plays CDs DVDs
and Burns. I have a Toshiba A30-714.

Just been to the Nero site, are you actually saying that instead of clicking
on the link for updating Nero 5 to 5048 I should click on the update Nero
5.5 to 551054 instead.

Nero allows free updates within a version. That is to say, you can go from
V4 to V4.x, you can't go up to V5 free. The same is true with going from V5
to V5.5, you can't update to V6 without paying.

That is the way I understand their license agreement and, that has worked
for me for some time now.

FWIW, JAX

Do you have a CD writer on your machine? I'm not sure I understand your

Hi Jax
Yes my laptop has just one drive which is known I believe as a 'combi' it
plays CDs & DVDs and it is also a CD writer. I have written to a CD using
the option contained in XP. It also had a Drag n Drop prog on which may
have been installed I think by Toshiba because it is on there Utilities disc
but would like to have Nero on it like my desktop because I am used to that
one.

Hi Jax
I have just had an email off Nero confirming what you said that I can
download the latest version. I take it I don't have to have Nero 5
installed, I presume I just download the new version and then key in my
number.
