My new Emachine, with 1.4 ghz, 40-gig hd, 224 RAM, locks
up when I print to my old Canon BJC-250 printer, and
unlocks when the printing is finished. I have Windows XP
Home Edition. The same printer worked well with Windows
98 on my old Compaq, with 96 RAM, 12 gig HD, 400 mhz. I
downloaded a BJC-250 driver for XP at Canon, but to no
avail. I "cleaned up" the PC, using long, detailed
instructions from Emachine, to no avail. This morning, an
Emachine rep told me that some printers just do not work
well with XP, not even his new HP printer. Is XP an
uncooperative villain, with printers?

This is an old parallel port printer, right?
Ensure the LPT port in the BIOS is set to EPP...
and if you connected the printer before installing the software, uninstall
it and reinstall it the correct way...
