View Full Version : Memory problems?

I only have a notebook computer so I'm having alot of
problems with virtual memory and memory of all kinds,
well lack of it anyway.
I've done everything I can think of to have more memory.
I took off most of the extra programs that came with my
computer but sometimes it still causes problems.
Most of what's left on is...printer..Norton. I do have
alot of SP2 hotfixes, would they use alot of memory?
Any good tips on freeing up space, redoing something?
I already did disk clean-up and there's not enough on my
computer to defragment anything.
I've got to be doing something wrong. Got any ideas?

--use msconfig to see what is running
--use task manager to see which processes are running
--turn of system restore....its a waste of code anyways.
--turn of hibernation.
--turn off most of the gui candy like sliding menus, personalized menus and
balloon tips.
--use classic mode
--turn off the gui candy sound effects, like min and max
--turn off registry checker (if you must)
--slow the mouse down and pick classic mouse pointers.
--Turn the resolution down on the video card and the amount of colours ( you
say color I say colour, you say tomato I say.... never mind)
HTH
last but not least buy more ram.

Start with http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm and then get back to us with
some specifics about the problems you are having.
Good luck

Those with knowledge share it. You have non to share,
otherwise you wouldn't be so RUDE. You need to learn how
to "post answers"! So you need to go to "how to post
polite answers web site"! So I give you the same reply!

I quess I need to find out more info on computer memory.
I think I as just trying to put to much on my computer.
Some screen savers can eat up alot of memory. I down-
loaded one and it said it was 2.5 mg but after I
downloaded it, on my add/remore window it showed it
having 75. mg. I was shocked! (and that was only a demo)
That's mostly where I've been having memory prblems. If
the best screen-savers take so..much memory, I quess, it
would be best to get a disk just for s/s?
Oh, I'm new to all this and have no idea how to get more
memory using Rams...sad but true. I thank you for your
answer, all other answers were from in-breeds.

This is a file size and not memory size. This will take disk space but that
is all but it will take up system resources if you run a screen saver.
To add memory for your machine do a google search on you brand of computer
it will tell you.

It appears to me that you are not talking about Memory - meaning either
physical RAM or 'virtual memory' at all, but about space for storage of
programs and data on the hard disk. So as a start - how big is the
disk: Highlight it in My Computer and let us know

Kurt? Kurt, is that you?
Here you use term "in-breeds" & later on you attack Ron Martell for =
trying to get you to make your problem clearer.
Had you made it clear, Ron would not need or have posted his reply. =
Most people here, including Ron, really try hard to help out.
