View Full Version : Automatic Font Substitution

When I select the Armenian keyboard, the font
automatically switches to Sylfaen. I change it to Arial
Unicode and then, as soon as I start typing, it switches
back to Sylfaen. The same thing happens with any other
font, whether it is Times Unicode, Lucida Sans Unicode,
ar any other. I tried deleting the Sylfaen font and still
does the same thing, it switches to Sylfaen, and since
there is no Sylfaen any more because I uninstalled it, it
gives me blank characters. First I thought it was a
problem with MSWord, but it also happens with Notepad and
WordPad, which shows that it is probably a Windows
problem rather than an MSWord problem. I can type the
whole thing in Sylfaen and then Select All and change the
font to anything I want, but it should not be that way.
I should be able to type with any fonts I choose. The
corresponding Help section says that if a font cannot
perform what is expected in a language, Windows will
switch automatically to a font which supports that
language. However, all these Unicode fonts have exactly
the same letters and the same encoding. As a matter of
fact, on my other computer, also running Win XP, I have
no problems with this issue: I can type anything in any
language, with the keyboard of my choice, and ewverything
works wonderfully. Does anyone have a clue of what is
goin on? Thank you.
