After posting a question and receivng a response, how can
I reply to that message ... when I try, I am prompted to
enter the name AND the email address of person I'm
responding to.
Thanks

You reply to the group. I, for one, delete emails that come from newsgroup
postings unless I know and trust the correspondent. I do not welcome private
correspondence and nor do any of the MVPs, because this is a peer-to-peer
newsgroup and all messages should be to the group for the benefit of all.
Post your message to the group.
Thank you

Private requests for assistance will not be acknowledged. Please post

Hit the "Respond to Sender" button on the bar at the top of the message if you
want to send him an email response, otherwise hit the "Respond to All (or
Group)" button for your response to appear in the NG.

If you're so upset about receiving e-mail from people who post, in OE, go to
Tools > Accounts > News tab > Properties button. In the next dialog box is
a place to change your e-mail address. This only affects what is displayed
in messages and doesn't affect your receipt of mail; it has the same thing
in the Mail tab.
I did this years ago after posting under my real name and e-mail address.
Got several unpleasant items in the inbox, wholly unrelated to the
newsgroups. So this is a good security move that I'm surprised you haven't
taken.

I posted as I did in the unlikely event that she hadn't. As she said, "I,
for one, DELETE EMAILS THAT COME FROM NEWSGTROUPS POSTINGS unless I know
trust the correspondent. I do not welcome private correspondence and nor do
any of the MVPs, and because this is a peer-to-peer newsgroup , all messages
should be to the group for the benefit of all." This infers that there was
an e-mail in her inbox, signature aside, plus she gave the way to actually
obtain her address.

Yes, there is a way to obtain my address, but someone has to go to the
trouble of reassembling it first. If I recieve a post from someone who isn't
in my address book, then it goes into a subfolder of the junk mail folder
and I peruse it at my leisure. If it looks as though I wish to correspond
with the person I will reply otherwise the mail is deleted and the sender
added to my 'junk senders list' to be deleted at source.
