View Full Version : Can't install WinXP

Trying to install WinXP as some files are corrupted. It gets down to the
final 2 minutes and hangs. I 'borrowed' an installation disk from a friend,
it's WinXP Professional, and that installs perfectly. Has anyone run across
this before?
When the PC boots up I notice that FastTrack133 Bios is running. That never
was there before. How do I deal with that?
Thanks

You borrowed XP Pro from a friend and installed it. If your CD is XP Home
Edition, that can't be installed over Pro. Fast Track 133 is for a RAID
Array. Do you have a RAID setup, if no, setup could be choking on that.

Thanks for the reply Mike
The Fast Track program started running as part of the booting process after
I tried to install WinXP Home. Is there a way to disable it. My PC has
RAID capability, however not something I'm interested in running. It came
with the PC.
If I install another hard disk in my PC could I install WinXP Home on it?
Thanks once again.

I have no experience with a RAID setup or Fast Track 133 and no idea why it
began after trying to load XP Home but this is loading before XP, you might
check your system BIOS or documentation about this.
If you install another hard drive, you can install XP Home on it but since
it is connected to your motherboard in which the same BIOS is loading on
setup, that will not turn off or otherwise get around this issue.
You might check your Motherboard manufacturer's website for information or
check the "Promise" website as I believe Fast Track 133 is a part of their
RAID setup.

First thing he needs to do is crack his case open, and see if indeed
he has a RAID capable board, or a RAID card installed.
He says he's TRYING to install XP...........which leads me to believe
he might have had 98 or another OS which might not have picked up on
the RAID capabilities (one never knows what another considers "part of
the booting process...he could mean after Windows inializes, but
before it's through loading). If the extra ports were not used, he
would never have known the difference.
If the board IS RAID capable........ then Windows is doing it's job.
If not...... it may have merely loaded the wrong driver for his
controller, and needs to be swapped with ATA IDE controllers.
SOME older boards never inialize the RAID portion of the BIOS unless a
drive is physically attached to the RAID ports, others must be set via
a jumper or setting in the BIOS.
Some clarification is needed from the original poster.......
Does he mean by "during boot" a black screen with other board
information scrolling, before the first "Window" appears?
Or while windows is still "working" at loading?
IS his board RAID capable (4 IDE ports on the board or combo of IDE
and or SATA) ?
Has he physically moved or added a drive?
