Wrong Display Adaptor

Hi All
I have P4 , 2.4 CPU , 1 gig DDR memory.
Have P4VDA soyo system board , nvidia Gforce MX440 video card.
Running XP pro on main HD , Got win 98 on second HD . XP works great , but
i can't load the right display adaptor for win 98,
all i can get is 16 colors and 460 X480 resaluation.
If i install the video card on win 98 it locks up the PC , if i leave
standard VGA as win. loads it runs ok except for the settings.
What could my problem be.
OH ya , I am running 2 completly separat HDs ( HD switcher ).
I had this posted in the general group but no one wanted to answer, so i
will try here.
