View Full Version : Win XP Pro formating issues

To all,
I was conducting a test run of WinXP Pro on my desktop
before installing it on my laptop. My laptop was going to
be the user. I was using the desktop to test out
features. It originally ran Win ME. When I was satisfied
with the test I performed I tried to format the desktop to
revert it back to ME so that I can use XP Pro on my
laptop. Unfortunately I had forgotten that once NTFS was
selected I cannot go back to FAT32.
My question is, can I Completely erase all data on the
hard drive and reinstall ME? I tried to format with my
system restore cd but it would not except it. I only get
the Abort, Retry, Fail errors.
It's driving me insane! Someone please help.
Sincerely,
Al

You need a ME (or 98) (floppy) boot disk, and start the PC with the disk =
on the floppy drive, and use the FDISK command. Go to Google and search =
for FDISK commands, since I am too burned out to give you the complete =
instructions!

Once you start the Fdisk command, go to the Delete partition (Option 3) and
delete the Non-Dos partition. Once this is done, Esc back to the first
screen and Create a Primary DOS partition (option 1). Reboot the computer
with the 98 boot disk in the A drive and let the CD-ROM drivers load and
then Format C: or go to the CD ROM drive (If memory serves me correctly the
RAM disk is D and the CD ROM will be E unless there are more than on
physical disk drive in the system) and type Setup.

But you were "too burned out" to help him. If you know "kilos of info!" why
didn't you post it here or do you just like to try to **** off others that
do try to help since you responded to my post just 20 minutes later. You
didn't succeed but you did show how asinine you really are Ted.
