View Full Version : No alert sounds

Hi folks,

Something I've seen posted about before, but I haven't seen any solutions
that work.

Basically I have no event sounds for MSN Messenger 6.1.0207. I haven't had
event sounds for quite some time now, although they did work for a few
months at least.

I'm running Win XP. Curiously in OE6 and Outlook 2003 the event sounds don't
work either, so I'm sure this is linked.

Sounds are shown in Control Panel, and when tested in Control Panel they
work. All other sounds work in Window's, as far as I can tell.

Any ideas?

Thanks

And FWIW, a new user account on the same version of Window's works
correctly. It's just this existing user account.

I'm loathed to have to migrate all the data across to a new account...

I've been having the same problem for a while too. And then the other
day I nearly jumped when a friend sent me a message and Messenger made a
noise! It continued to work until (as I suspected) I rebooted and it
hasn't worked again since.

It's very frustrating - if I'm not in front of the screen I have no idea
if someone is trying to contact me. Sort of defeats the whole purpose I
think.

Agreed that it's frustrating. There's obviously some bug in Window's, or
something caused by some other software.

I've migrated all my settings across to another account now to solve the
problem.

I had to create a new user account.
