View Full Version : A drive

Recently I noticed the XP boot up seems to take longer that it used to. Then
I also noticed that during boot up the a: drive is addressed 3 times. I
don't remember changing anything about the a: drive but I do remember that
somewhere I saw a setting to not address the a: drive on boot. Anyone know
what I'm talking about?

I can't think of anywhere in XP that there is a setting like that. I have a
setting to check for a floppy drive in my BIOS (in addition to setting it as
boot drive, if desired) and in my antivirus program. Also, a reference to
the A: drive in Recent Documents or the Run list has historically in many
versions of Windows, caused an extra check of the floppy drive. Use
Taskbar/Start Menu properties to clear the history for these items.

Do you have an explanation for the system addressing the a: drive 3 times
during boot up?

Exactly when does it "address" the drive and how? A probe that lights the
LED? This is what I thought you meant be "address."Once by Bios, once by
antivirus check and once perhaps from a stray shortcut is what I was
thinking. There's some settings here and there in XP to check for all
network drives too.

If you mean something else or if my supposition is off-track, post back with
more information on what you're seeing and when that has you concerned.

I think you understand my question. The system during boot
actuates(addresses) the a: drive 3 unique times. Previously I didn't think
it did that, not even once. Now obviously I could be mistaken and I guess I
can live with it. Thanks anyway.
