A friend of mine just brought over a CD-RW disk, and I thought it would
be an easy chore to change the attributes on the CD, all I get is access
denied. How can I change the attributes on all these files? Any help is
appreciated.......Peter

Try copying the files onto the hard drive and then make the change.

Thanks for the reply Wes, I tried that, so at least it copied all the
files to the HD and then only added a attribute of A onto the files.
That was good, I was then able to copy them onto a floppy, with out
access restriction and the dumb attribute change to R. Why is that, that
it automatically changes the damn attributes to R, and then does not
allow you to change it on the CD. Hoping for more answers........Peter

If the CD-R/W is formatted with packet writing software like Direct CD (now
called Drag n Drop) from Roxio, or InCD from ahead software, then the CD-R/W
will behave like a giant floppy or small hard drive and the files do not
have the read-only attribute set. However if the files were burned to a
CD-R/W using mastering software like XP's built in software or Easy CD
Creator or Nero then the attribute is set as Read only.
If your friend used packet writing software to create the CD-R/W but you do
not have a packet writing software program on your computer then you can
only read the CD-R/W or copy files off it but you can't make changes to the
disk. To learn more about CD Writing take this link
