View Full Version : Shortcut to Exe on file share

I have a shortcut on my desktop to an executable in a file share. Whenever
I double click the shortcut, it gives me the Open or Save dialog, like when
you download a file from the Internet. The Save choice is greyed out, as is
the Always ask when opening this file type option.

I don't want to be prompted by this every time I try to run this app. How
can I disable this?

Thanks a lot!

How did you create the shortcut. Can you browse there with explorer and =
drag a shortcut from explorer to your desktop?

Hi

Try to double-click on the executable directly. Does the same happen then, do
you get an Open/Save dialog?

I tried dragging it off. I also tried creating one using the UNC, and also
a mapped drive.

Hi

Try this:

Start "Windows Explorer".
In the View menu, enable "Status Bar" if you haven't already.
Go to the network drive where the executable is placed.

Does it say "Internet" (or maybe "Unknown" something)?

If it does, that explains the warning dialog. It should have been "Local
intranet". Go to the Control Panel, and open "Internet Options". Select the
Security tab, and then "Local intranet". Click on the "Sites..." button. Verify
that all (three) choices are selected. If they are, I would think you have a
DNS problem or something...

Is isn't a DFS share by chance? We have the same issue with DFS shares
sometimes...

I'll give that a shot. Thanks

Nope. It's just a simple share.
