My PC is running quite slow and I believe a defrag is in
order. However when I try to defrag (XP Home ed Disk
Defragmenter) I get the message (prompt):

"Defragmetation of (C:) has been aborted due to
inconsistencies that were found in the filesystem. Please
run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair these
inconsistencies, then run Disk Defragmenter again."

How do I run CHKDSK or SCANDISK, or otherwise solve this
problem?

Please advise.

Much Obliged.

I am still, and always yours,

Joe

START --> RUN --> type CMD and press enter.

type CHKDSK /F and press entrer.

You'll be prompted to schedule the test for the next time the computer
starts, say YES.

Close that window, restart the computer, let the test done, and try to
defragment again.
