I am attempting to install a program (Vector NTI 9, if anyone cares)
and keep getting "Error 1324. The path VNTI Databse contains an
invalid character". First, the program asks where to install, then it
unpacks the necessary files, then gives me the error an aborts the
installation. I have done some research on it, but every fix I have
tried so far hasn't worked. It seems this error comes up if the setup
program tries to access an invalid location or something. The only
explanation I can think of is that my hard drive is E:, rather than
C:. (This was not by design: when WinXP was setting up, for some
strange reason, it made my flash memory reader C:, the optical drive
D:, and the hard drive E:.) When the installation asks where to
install, the path is correct, but I have a feeling something else is
trying to find something on C:, and not finding it. Short of
reformatting the hard drive and trying to figure out some way to get
the hard drive to be C: when I reinstall, I don't know what else to
try. (The computer is a laptop, so I can't just open it up and unplug
the flash reader.) I don't know much about this, so I am hoping
someone else can help. Thanks in advance.

Hi - Actually, it is always useful to name a program that is giving you
trouble in case someone else uses it. I think you've put your finger on
why the Vector NTI 9 is failing. It may be an older program that will
only accept being installed on the C: drive. In any case, the people to
contact are the Vector NTI tech support guys. They will know the answer
to your problem.

Cheers,

Malke
