still cant get sound to work

i posted earlier about my sound not working, and i
downloaded the 2 new driver packs from creative.com, but
my sound still will not work after upgrading from win ME
to win XP

I seem to recall that recently a poster found out that a defective
cable was the problem.

Check control panel---administrative tools--services---windows audio.
