No, doubtful it is XP.. Go into Control Panel and look for a System icon.
Clik on that and look for a Hardware icon. Double clik that to open it and
in the middle of that window you will see a Device manager tab... Clik that
to open it also and scroll down the list to see if your ZIP drive is
listed.. (should be somewhere under 'drives'... or removable storage maybe)
If it is and it doesn't have either an exclamation point next to it, or a
question mark, it must be recognized by the system, which is a good first
check.
Next step..... Highlite the ZIP drive in that window by clicking once (left
clik) and then RIGHT click it to see Properties and it will say, "update
driver' ...clik that to see if XP has the updated driver, if it says it
can't continue, that only means there is no better driver for it than the
one installed and that is usually o.k. XP provides drivers that work with XP
for most hardware and going to the manufacturers site to look for other
drivers is usually a waste of time.
Some people think they have to go to the site, for example, Iomega makes ZIP
drives.... They have drivers but usually the ones XP has are very
satisfactory..
If none of this solves your problem, ask yourself WHO installed the ZIP
drive and tell them what is happening.... If it was in the PC when you
bought it then that is something else.
The next question is; have you tried more than one ZIp cartridge in the
drive? Second question; is there data on any of them and did you put it
therre? If you know something wass written to the drive by you, it surely is
on it still. Because of respect for space on this site, i won't go into
further detail, although there are several other things that should be
checked and perrhaps you should take the PC to a shop and someone you
trust......

Did you install the IomegaWare ?
Have you tried multiple ZIP disks ? What capcity ? Are they new or used ?
What model ZIP drive (e.g., ; IDE internal ZIP 250, USB powered ZIP 250, etc...) ?
