View Full Version : Internet setting keep being lost

Hi all,
I am running XP Pro and my internet settings keep getting lost. I have to go
to internet properties (either through control panel or right clicking-->
properties on the IE6 icon) every time I log on to change the setting to
what it should be!
It should be "always dial my default connection" but always reverts to
"never dial a connection" If I change this, then run IE6 immediately it will
dial out properly.
If I disconnect from the internet and then try to reconnect later I find
that the setting has reverted to "never dial". This also happens if I log
out or restart. I have tried everything I can think of and have resorted to
having a shortcut to the dial up connection on my desktop.
If anyone can shed some light on this I would be really grateful!

Hi,
A third party program is resetting your dial up connection. Do a complete
inventory of anything that is internet related or which may require a
connection and disable all.
This is known to happen if you are using Norton Anti-Virus with the
Auto-Protect turned on. If this applies to you, turn off the Auto-protect
and set it to scan program files only.

Thanks fo the reply!
Turns out that it was a trojan - would run a program called msiexec16.exe
that trys to keep port 5555 open - I assume that in doing so it would
somehow reset the tinternet settings.
Anyway, I think it's quite new which is why my virus scanner dfin't pick it
up. All up to date and working properly now.
Thanks again!
