Hi all and thankyou for all the information I find at this group.

My frustrating problem is that in Windows Explorer when I choose how I want
to view a folder from the view menu, it won't stay that and when I return to
it I may find it as a Tile view or thumbnail view instead of list view.

In folder options on the Tools Menu, I have checked "Remember each folder's
view settings". I have also tried clicking Apply to all Folders even though
I do not want a particular view for all folders.

I have read the previous post dated 19/1/2004, Subject: Folder Settings -
the reply did not solve my problem.

I have searched several MVP sites (Doug Knox, John Barnett and more) and not
found the answer.

I found something at Kelly's corner - Increase Folder View size limit to
8000 (from 400). Could this be the cause of my frustration? Do I need to do
this scary RegEdit stuff?

I am not confident that I have this right - do I just save the file to my
hard drive, double click it and all will be done for me?

Thanks for your time
Robyn

Hi Robyn, yes go to this site
The Default for Windows XP is to remember the view settings for the 400 most
recently used folders.
Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2):
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
The instructions on how to use are at the top of the page. If you prefer, create
a system restore point prior to double clicking the regedit. That's all there is
to it.

"To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and
answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right
clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may
want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs file. You
will be prompted when the script is done. "

Hi Robyn,

Yes. It works for most users. Download and double-click the file. =
Restart Windows

If you want to know more, read below the note from Kelly Theriot, MVP:
-------------------------
Windows [XP] remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached =
some settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by =
adding this edit to the registry.=20
-------------------------

In the testing phase, Microsoft has tried this with 10000 as the max =
value and this caused some performance issues. And made 8000 as the =
highest.

Most welcome.

Of late, there is a Microsoft Knowledgebase released for the same issue. =
