I have XP home edition. I used to be able to go into IE 6
and type in an address as follows: www.espn.com. This
would take me to espn.com, now when I type that in I
receive the following error message:
file:///C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/notfound.html?www.espn.com
Anyone have any thoughts?

I tried that URL and was redirected to http://msn.espn.go.com/
I'm logged on to sbcglobal.net so my MSN service isn't interfering. It
would appear that ESPN has changed their address.

Thank you, however I used ESPN as an example only. This
issue occurs anytime I attempt to use only
www.website.com. It seems as though my explorer has
forgotten to add the HTTP:// for me as it has done in the
past.

MVP Sandi Hardmeier has a website dedicated to Internet Explorer issues:
http://www.mvps.or/inetexplorer/
Below is an excerpt from her page. You could use IE's Internet Options>
Programs> Reset Web Settings to reset Internet Explorer as the default
browser. This also resets the registry entries for internet protocols as
detailed below (courtesy of Sandi). To perform the changes manually (or
to double check the results of the reset):
Using Regedit, have a look at this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\URL
The correct settings should be as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix]
Default ="http://"
Sub-key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
