My Dad has just bought a new computer. It had no
software with it so he also purchases Windows XP home ed.
Since installing it, it rarely comes on, and when it does
it keeps freezing. This is what happens, we turn the
computer on, click on a user, but then it says 'PARSER
ERROR HA AT LINE 799.' If we click OK, it says 'this
computer in use has been locked, only 'user name' or an
administrator can unlock this computer.' It then asks
for a password, when a password has never been set into
the computer!
Then.. Windows explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. When we send an error report, it says:-
Error signature App name.explorer.exe
Appver:6.0.2800.1106 Mod name:shell32.dll
offset:00052.cdd
It then says 'the following files will be included in
this error report
C:\DOCUME~1\JUNE\LOCALS~1\TEMP\WER16.tmp.dir00
\appcompat.txt
I am sorry this is so long-winded, but none of this makes
ANY sense to me, so any help in easy terms would be much
appreciated. TIA.

Outsourcing to other countries
How to Fight It:
When you call for tech support, and determine that it is coming out of another country, (it is
getting harder to tell, so have a game plan ready) make the call last as long as possible.
Try to work your way up to the next level.
Pretend to be ignorant and obnoxious, within tolerable limits, and keep going up levels until
you get an answer with which you are "satisfied".
If possible, ask them to call you back.
If asked for feedback, report that you are not satisfied.
If not asked for feedback, write and report a lack of satisfaction. There is usually an easy
link. They want to know..
The support group/system/company outsourcer who can deliver tech support for the least money
gets the contract. (for the most part)
Their bottom line is rated on SLA (service level agreements).
Service level Agreements cannot be met if phone time is too long and customer satisfaction is
low.
Call backs are killers.
And ( I really don't like this part - I was a Republican) if you get lame support from a person
who is in this country, consider taking one for the team..
Really good people are getting canned along with the bad.
Hang up on idiots quickly, and call back. Chances are that you will get someone better when you
call back.
========================
We are taking ourselves down... and on a less selfish level, if we go down, who is going to do
the good things we do?
What country will take up that slack?
We are far from perfect, but it is not yet time to self-destruct.
