Yahoo email problems

I cannot type in the compose window for my yahoo email.
This has been a problem since I got windows xp home
edition. Yahoo support suggested I get the updates from
Windows. I have downloaded a multitude of things, except
those which seem to apply to gaming or interoffice
networking. They didn't make sense for my problem and
take forever to download.

Does anyone know what the problem is? I like the spam
amangement for the Yahoo system, hardly ever get any
raunchy emails there. If I do not keep my hotmail
accounts set on the most extreme filters, the junk is
astounding. I want to recieve email from people who may
not have a chance to get through the extreme filters.

Can u please elaborate the problem that comes when u try
to compose a new mail. That will help us further to track
down the problem.

yes. I can type information in the address, subject
lines, but when I try to type into the compose
window/screen, it's not 'alive' and I cannot type
there. I do not think this is an individual, one-time
problem as it is on the list of issues one can select
when trying to contact Yahoo. Their suggestion was to
download updates from Windows. My computer was a refurb
HP Pavilion 734n (80gig/512), so I thought maybe this was
a concern; that it might have been on the shelf long
enough to miss updates. I have downloaded all that seem
pertinent. I am not part of an office network (LAN), nor
do I play games on the internet, so skipped those. There
are a couple of drivers available for items I do not
understand, so suspect I don't have them.
