Do you know what would be causing Windows XP to hang up?
I'm running an 8GB SCSI hard drive using a Pentium III, so
it's a couple of years old by now.
I've previously run Win98 and recently Windows 2000
Professional on the PC.
I recently tried to upgrade to Windows XP.
As Windows XP wouldn't uninstall Windows 2000
Professional I used the Win98 boot disk to partition and
then reformat the C Drive.
This seemed to free up the C Drive for Windows XP and I
was then able to:
Partition the C drive using Windows XP, and then
reformat the C drive with the NTFS option.
Windows during "Setup" then loaded the XP files without a
problem.
Everything was going fine until it stated that it would
close down and reboot in 15 secs to allow the final
settings to be configured.
It then closed down
THEN NOTHING! - A dark blank screen.
It doesn't seem to be recognising the C Drive, though it
appears to load okay during set up!
Rebooting at this stage doesn't do anything either, unless
I reboot through the CD which then starts the setup
sequence all over again.
I can still install Windows 2000 Professional without the
above hiccup which I finally did as a last resort.
Unfortunately I don't know where to go from here.
Is it something peculiar to SCSI?
Any ideas?
Cheers
