I went to Accessories>>System tools>>Backup and asked for
complete backup of my system, via the Wizard. I asked for backup to
go on my Slave Hard Drive (10 GB empty space in the G: partition).
I put a blank floppy in a: drive and hit Finish.

I got an error window, saying "Files for recovery diskette
could not be created; operation aborted"......

What did I do wrong, or fail to do?

Thank you.

If your version of XP is the Home version then ASR can not complete. You did
nothing wrong. You will need a third party imaging program to create a full
system backup. Backup MyPC, Norton Ghost 2003, Drive Image 2002 and BootIt
NG are popular choices for doing this.

Thank you, Harry. This machine did, indeed,
come with Home Edition. I bought BootitNG
some time ago but found it very hard to use. I'll try again.

I am not an expert on BootIt NG however I have used the Imaging software and
it works quite nicely. You should visit the download site for the newest
version http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads/bootitng.zip and use it
as improvements have been ongoing. Just copy your registration file to the
new floppy. It should be called "reg.txt" and it will boot without incident.
When you boot with the BootIt NG floppy answer No to the question about
installing BootIt NG. You can then run the tools from the floppy. Image
doesn't have any fancy GUI but it is straightforward and will burn directly
to CD-R or CD/RW spans CDs as necessary. If you need help there is an
excellent support newsgroup linked from here
