Every time I try to use the floppy boot disks, to install
Windows XP I get to disk five and get the following error
message:

File ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error (4104) at line
5010 in d:/\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c

Does anyone know what's happening and what I could do to
solve the problem?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

You have a corrupt disk, format them and rebuild the setup files.

I've hated 3.5" floppy disks ever since they came on the scene.
Everyone said they were better than the previous 5.25" disks, and they
should have been right. However, in my experience, the 5.25" disks
performed far better and more consistently over time than did the
3.5". I kept 5.25" drives on my PCs until 2 PCs ago.

As it is, I had to come up with 6-3.5" disks last week. I went
through 24 disks to come up with 7 that worked. That's unbelievable.
It also reflects my experience through Win 95, 98 and XP.

I try to always use CDs now, whenver possible.

Yup, floppies degrade and are not reliable. CDs are a better bet, as
are the USB pen-type drives that are all over the place these days.
