incoming call alert

i am running xp pro.i want to know how i can get
notification of an incoming phone call when i am on-line
using a 56k modem

Depends on your ISP and phone company. The upcoming technology is V92. =
This requires you and your ISP have V92 modems and uses Call Waiting. =
Some phone companies sell a online call notification such as Telstra. =
They intercept your calls and send em to you via the internet.

This is not a question for here but to your service providors.

you can also chk out 3rdparty devices like 'catchacall'
which has that capability w/comp and fax and also
req's 'call-waiting svc' fr your telco and is
avail thru stores such as radio shack

You might have to change ISP to AOL.....they're busy advertising that feature on
TV quite heavily these days.

A program i used in my dialup days and HIGHLY recommend is PAGOO. It works
great www.pagoo.com
