Hey,
If both of your drives are on the one IDE port(i.e.
on the same cable) then set one to master and one to
slave, set it to master if its the only drive on the
port. You did say that it was reading cd's so I doubt
that itss that, if you didn't push the cables in properly
to start with they may have disconnected - check the
cables(try changing the IDE cable to see if its that
also). It may of course be a bad cd drive what type is it?
