I tried to send a few small programs to Floppies I FORMATTED right on
this same computer several months ago. I get a window saying the floppy
isn't formatted and do I want to format it. I tried several Floppies and
got the same window. When I tell it YES I then get a window that says:

Can't format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or open programs using
this drive.

There are no utilities to quit and these floppies were already formatted.
There ARE no open programs using the A drive.
The Dummies book doesn't cover this newest problem. The books only tell
you what you can do but NOT what to do when something goes wrong.

How do I fix this so the PC will reformat these already formatted floppies
so I can use the A drive/floppy disks?
This is another problem we never had with W95 or W98.

Thanks....

HI FreeSpirit. Try the following link. I suspect this is the problem but
be warned, the link, and solution, is unfortunately somewhat technical...

===========================
Thanks Lorne, this is WAY beyond my skill level. I called HP support last
night and they're sending me a new Floppy Drive to install. The Floppies
I'm using were all formatted on THIS PC and are several different brand
names (Sony, Maxwell, Imation.). The tech (in India) seemed to think the
drive itself has a problem. I'll let you guys know what happens. Maybe I
should have bought a Dell. ;-)

Kidding aside, my 3 1/2 year old HP with W98 is still running great.
