When I try to backup to zip disc, system says it is write-
protected. Also says the same thing when I try to format
a zip disc. Am using 100 mb disc. Is that my problem?
Thanks.

You'll need to install the program from www.iomega.com to update the zip =
drivers and to remove the write protect status on the disks.

So did mine, but the OP said that the disk was locked (write protected). =

Do you know a way to remove write protection from a zip disk without =
their tools?

Yes, zip disks can be write protected. And the protection isn't like a =
slide window on a floppy.=20

From http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/2010.html
How do I Read/Write protect my Iomega=AE disks?
Document # 2010.html

Protecting your Iomega=AE disks is a good way to protect your valuable =
data. Use the following instructions to protect your Iomega disks using =
the IomegaWareT software. Iomega disks cannot be protected or =
unprotected using software other than IomegaWare.

Use the following instructions to protect your Iomega disk.

Windows | Macintosh

Windows=AE

1.. Insert the Iomega disk you want to protect into your drive.

2.. Double-click the My Computer icon.

3.. Right-click the drive icon and click Protect.

If the protect option is grayed out, your disk is already protected.

4.. Select Write protected or Read & Write Protected from the =
drop-down box.

Note: If you select Read & Write Protected you will need to supply a =
password. If you forget the password, the data cannot be recovered and =
your disk will need to be long formatted. A long format will destroy the =
data on your disk.

5.. Click OK.

6.. Click OK again.
