Just switch from ME to XP-Pro. Will not be able to run a
clean install for a few weeks. Need to remove some ME
apps that lanuch at start-up. Where/how do I control the
programs that launcah at start-up. (BTW, could not find
the "right" keywords for local and knowledge base help.
Kept getting info on the start menu. Very frustrating!)
Thanks.

Use the same tool you used in Windows ME: Start > Run> MSCONFIG Look at the
startup tab for the list of items currently configured to run at startup. If
possible, disable these items from the menus of the main programs that they
belong to. Otherwise, disable the extras here that you do not need or want
by unchecking the box on the startup page.

Also, I would suggest *not* to worry about disabling any services at this
point in time as another response has suggested. Please become more familiar
with what these are and what they do before changing the startup type. I've
been running XP for two years and have found it necessary to disable only a
few of these on my setup.
