In my System Info, I'm showing:

Total Physical Memory 384.00MB
Total Available Memory 186.04MB

Why the approx 200MB difference?

Thanks Richard

All 198 with just my browser open? What would've happened if I only had,
say, 128MB?

Memory is always assigned to the disk cache. The more memory you have, the
more is assigned. If you have only 128 meg of RAM, you will be using the
pagefile a lot more.

My stats right now (fluctuating of course) are 242,784 used - 221,700
available out of 512 meg installed.

Windows sets aside a part of your hard drive and uses it
as "RAM". It's called a page file, or virtual memory. It's
slower than RAM, but it will get the job done.

Well, the operating system uses memory, too. With 128 MB all would be used
plus the pagefile or whatever your system calls the part of the hard drive
used as memory cache.
