I have Windows XP on a Dell comp. I think that Norton anti-
virus may havee deleted important files. Is there any way
to find out what files were deleted and reinstall them. My
system recovery will not work, it just loads a blank
screen. Please help!!!!!

Alison;
Normally Norton puts infected files in Quarantine.
Open Norton and read Help about Quarantine.

What makes you think important files were deleted?
Do you get an error message?What virus was detected.

I am really computer stupid. I unistalled Norton after
this happened and I don't remember whta virus it was. The
reason I think that some files are missing is for several
reasons. My search and system restore open to blank pages.
Inertnet pages don't load right. Java will not work now.
The Media Player says 'internal error' when I try to open
it, even after I reinstalled it. And I'm sure there are
other problems I don't know about yet. Basically I
shouldn'ty mess with my comp and I did and now I don't
know what to do.

Alison;
Try this to check for and replace bad system files:
Start/Run
Type "cmd" ENTER
Type "sfc /scannow" ENTER
Have the Windows XP CD available.

I still need help please! I tried the "cmd" and
sfc/scannow, it told me to put in the xp disk with the
service pack 1, and it said scanning protected window
files, but when it was done the box just weht away and it
didn't do anything, so I don't know what to try next. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alison

Try it again but make sure that you click on OK and "not the desk top" ...
this will close it.

Alison;
Try it one more time to be sure.

Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
Windows Updates will need to be reinstalled.

Alison;
Not annoying at all.
Data should be safe during a Repair Installation.
