i want to register my xp pro. the register screen popped
up but I was unable to register because while installing,
xp dropped me from my network and I had to restart the
computer to get back on, and now I have no idea where to
look to register. Thanks

Go to Help and Support. Type "registration" (no quotes). In the right pane,
you will see a link for registration.

There is a difference between registration and activation. Registration is
activation while also providing Microsoft with your personal information.
Activation can be performed alone without providing any personal info to
Microsoft; i.e., during activation, you can choose whether or not to also
register.
I think what you're looking for is:
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Activate Windows
That's where I found it on my Windows XP Pro install although it's also
possible that is where I moved it to. The shortcut runs:
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A
