View Full Version : printer asleep

Have 2 XP networked PCs on Workgroup. Printer shared on
the one PC. When send prints from the other PC to the
shared printer, get error saying printer not available.
If print a print on the PC with the printer installed
locally, and then go to the other PC and print on the
shared printer, it then works fine. It's a USB printer.
Any ideas on how to print to the shared printer without
having to print locally first?

Is the USB controller set to go to sleep when not required to save power....
Check under their individual entries in the Device Manager. If set to
sleep, uncheck the box(es) and see if it solves the problem.

I have seen this issue when the first job that comes in is owned by GUEST
but only on DOT4 (these can be over USB). If you could give info regarding
the printer model and if the Port is in fact DOT4. Also were did you get
the driver (with the printer or from Manufacture web)?
thanks
