I notice at the end of some posts people put things like =/ :) etc. what do you have to turn on to make them show up as graphics or whatever they are called. I don't find anything in the help files.

What client are you using to read the newsgroups? That solely determines
what gets converted.

I am using web based here at work and outlook express at home. They don't come up at home either.

Yeah - neither one of those will convert them for you natively.
I use OE-Quotefix for that reason (and several other reasons.)
