Hi - i purchased full XP professional and installed in on
an old computer, and registered it. I just built a new
system and want to load it. Do i need to de register
somehow on line? I've been told it's tied to the NIC?
Thanks - could not find anything in the manuals.

It's tied to several components in your PC.. (original)..
Simply wipe the hard drive of the first and install on the second computer.
You will have to reactivate, but if it has been long enough, the procedure
you did before will be the same now. Worst case, you might have to make a
phone call.

If you do have to phone, then legally you do not have to answer any personal questions, just ask for authorisation.

Provided it was a retail system, and not one of the OEM ones, sold with
hardware and marked 'For supply only with a New computer', you can
transfer it. Go ahead with the installation. Leave activation a few
days until all is set up, just in case you need to start over. When it
comes to activation, run
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
if it is more than 120 days since you last did it, you will find it will
go through on the net just like first time. If not, you will have to
phone a toll-free number that will be given, to explain and swap one
long number for another to check back as you type it in

Greetings --
There is no "unregistration" or "de-activation" process, as such.
Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
