Was XP preinstalled or did you upgrade from another version of Windows?
If XP was preinstalled, you will need to have another OS to install. There
are possibly other problems with drivers not being available for your
hardware for the older OS.
If you upgraded from another Windows, you either didn't elect to save the
uninstall files, or made changes to your hard drive file system, or added,
removed a partition.
If you explain what your end goal is, it would be easier to give help.
