Hi,first time user in this group.
When i go into my "system configuration utility",and
click on start up,there are a lot of programmes
running,is there a site where i can go to where they can
tell me what each one means(in basic, easy to understand
language)so i can "trim down" the number of programmes
running(safely ,without de-activating anything important)?
Can i also use this utility to have only the basic
programmes running in the background while im actually
using pc?
Many thanks for any help.......

Go to this web page:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

This will help you to eliminate processes not necessary to the running of XP
under various circumstances. Make sure to read ALL his advice/warnings
before attempting to disable anything AND create registry backups AND
preferrably run a program like GoBack just in case you can't boot into
Windows after disabling something you shouldn't have :O

This guy is an absolute guru when it comes to XP/2000 - i've tested it and
it works !!

Good luck,

Ray
