I have Windows XP and am trying to record a sound byte. On old versions I could easily. I have a microphone jack but nothing will record. Cant seem to get the microphone to work

Ed,
Try going to CONTROL PANEL/SOUNDS and on the AUDIO tab
make sure the MIC is SELECTED and that the volume is turned up.
If it happens to be greyed out, post back for more info.
