How do I get rid of unwanted links in the system configuration startup in
Windows XP?

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup (Line 148)

If the programs are still installed, open the main program that the item
belongs to and look for a menu that controls the startup behavior.

If the program is no longer installed or that user menu isn't availabe,
track the call for the startup down and remove it. On the msconfig, page
you should see 3 columns (these columns are resizable using the divider
lines between the column headings):

Startup Item: The "generic" name for the module loading at startup.

Command: The command line that is loading the file; usually a path
including a filename or just the filename.

Location: Where that command line is located at. If the location says
"Common Startup" look in the Startup folder for the All Users account
and remove the shortcut.

If the location starts with "HKLM" or HKCU" these are keys in the
registry. HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKCU= HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Start>
Run> Regedit will open the Registry Editor. Follow the path to the
specificed "Run" key. Locate the startup item in the right hand pane of
the registry editor and delete it.
