View Full Version : missing files while installing

I upgraded my computer to XP last month and had no
problems during the installation. I had a hard drive
crash and ended up reformatting my drives and totally
reinstalling Win98. I've been trying the XP upgrade for
the last 2 weeks but keep getting error messages during
the 'copying files' part of the installation that files
are missing. Some look to be installation files; other
appear to be otherwise ie. photowiz. I've have only
minimal programs installed as I wanted XP to have as few
problems upgrading as possible. I tried disabling my
virus scanner but that didn't help either. (I didn't
disable anything during the successful install the first
time and didnt have any problems).
Any suggestions?
Thanks

if you're going to be running XP then why not just install it and forget
about installing 98 first...not saying that that will cure your problem but
give it a shot, clean installs are much more stable and have fewer problems
from the start. as for your missing files (assuming that you have a legit
cd of XP) your cdrom may need cleaning or just replacement, or there is a
scratch on the disk, had the same problem a few weeks ago and ended up
replacing the drive. oh well it's only money...

The XP upgrade will only work if Win98 is installed..it
can't be installed just to a formatted drive.
