Canon ImageClass MPC600f insatllation problems

I've had to install a Canon MPC600f on to a WinXP Pro system through the USB Port. Every time I plug the usb cable in it comes up with unknown device and none of the drivers (from the canon site) work for this device - and the setup software will not conti
nue until it is able to detect the device. Has anyone come across this problem? I can not add the printer on an LPT port as the computer does not have one so USB is my only option
