printer does not print

I have sucessfully installed an HP PSC 2410 photosmart all-in-one printer.{according to the installation screens}
On it own, the device prints the test page OK but when connected to the computer it "hangs" when a test page is printed.
I get the message "printing" on the printer but nothing prints.
I get "printing failed" on the computer screen.

I'm using the USB controller.
It is very frustrating.
Pls anyone with a suggestion how to resolve this dilemma ????
