View Full Version : Problems with upgrading my MSN Messenger

I am operating with Windows XP Professional, yet I have a problem on trying to upgrade the messenger 4.7 to a newer version 6.1...everytime I download the 6.1 messenger from the web site and try to install it...it always appear "error 1603' fatal error on
the installation...how can I fix this...anybody pls..help

Greetings Rolando,

Firstly, just so you know, you can't actually upgrade Windows Messenger 4.7 to MSN Messenger
6.1, they are different products and are separate (hence the difference product names).
However, if you click Start, then Run, type "eventvwr.msc" and click OK, click Application on
the left-side, then look for Error's from the "MsiInstaller" source. The most recent one
should be it, assuming you haven't had any other problems with a Windows Installer.
Double-click the Error, and look in the Description field for a more accurate description of
the problem. If you post this description (there's probably multiple Error's in the Event
Viewer, so post all of them), we might be able to figure out the real explanation for the
1603 error (which is a generic error code).
