Just bought a new machine with XP Pro installed. This
machine will be a single user operation. I'm somewhat
confused after my first look at the setup instructions (I
haven't unpacked the machine yet). As a single user what
settings should I use: Administrator or simply User or
must I use both, i.e., setup myself as Adminstrator then
repeat the setup as User? (if I'm reading the manual
correctly those are the options).

Pieter;
You should create 2 additional accounts.
Once you create another account, the default Administrator will be
hidden after a reboot.
Create an Administrator first, then create a Limited account.
Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
You will then have 3 accounts.
1. Default Administrator for emergency use
2. Administrator for most all Administrator duties.
3. Limited user for all routine stuff (Email, surfing, word
processing etc)

Password BOTH administrators and take precautions not to lose the
password.
