Need help! I'm on my 3rd cd of the uprgrade to XP pro on
my sony notebook. Keep getting message " Fatal Error
one of the components that windows needs to continue
setup could not be installed.
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
Reference is to a problem with CD but I don't think 3
different cd's would have the same read error. The drive
reads other cd's fine.
The setup log file says," Instalation failed F:\I386\ams
error message: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
Any one know of a way to get around this?
Thanks in advance

3 CDs. It could be that the CD drive can not read the XP CD correctly.

Is this a copied CD? That's the only time I've ever seen this error.
