View Full Version : Floppy Stuff Again

Ever since I went to XP, I've had problems with floppies. The old ones I had
would not read, etc. I have installed a 3 mode driver for the floppy drive
and seems???? to have no problem now. Can anyone tell me if they have tried
that kind of driver and if they had any luck with it?
TIA, JAX

Most interesting! Which version/make? I know W2K has one......
XP may not know how to handle a drive that uses: 1.44, 1.2, 720K
Will check more into it to verify.

Hi Kelly,
Here is a link to the driver I have been playing with. You will have to sort
through all the verbosity to find it. As you can see the instructions are a
little too long. I installed the drivers and have since used floppies on a
2K machine as well as a 98 one.

I had no luck before, it seems that some XP installs like floppies and, some
don't. You know better than I.

I have just installed the driver and so far, so good. I had tried everything
I could find to get floppies to work on my machine, with no luck. I even
tried 3-4 different FD's.
Some people have posted that they had no problem at all with floppies and
others post with the same situation as I had. I can't help wondering if it
is not some difference in the XP disks themselves. Perhaps the native driver
is fouled on some of the CD's and not on others. Do you think that could be?
A lot of people have just given up on floppies but, I have a rather
expensive camera that uses them and don't really want to scrap it out. Yes,
I know it's outdated but, the camera and accessories cost about $1400 and
has a lot of features I haven't seen on any later ones.
I am anxious to see what you think about that driver. Please keep me posted.
The best to you and yours,
JAX
