First I'd like to express my great appreciation for my good fortune to
have access to (MVP) contributors. You are, indeed, Most Valuable
Persons!

I have WMP version 8. It does entirely too much. All I want it to do
is play what I ask it to play. No news of the entertainment world; no
cataloging "this will take a few minutes"; No waves washing up on the
shore. All that simply gets in my way (especially the news.) When I
put a CD in the drawer and close it, I want it to start playing
pronto. As it is now, it takes a good minute for it to finally get
around to playing the disc. Furthermore, if I interrupt the play by
opening the drawer, I can't put another disc in and have it play; it
keeps trying to play the first disc.

If I want to play an mp3, cda or wma that's on the hard drive, it goes
right to work. How can I get the same service when I play something
on the CD drives?

I'd like to permanently eliminate the cataloging function. Also, I do
not up or download music from the web, so that can go also.

Many thanks,

Norm Strong

i would consider upgradeing to WMP9 first. everything that you said you
want to turn off is in the opitions for WMP. the only thing that you are
wanting to happen is a cd to play. CD's have to spin up first. this is a
limitation of the media itself. it cant go any faster than your cd-rom
drive will let it go.
