I have tried to help two friends in going from Windows 98SE to Windows XP
Professional and followed all the instructions for a "update" (not the
version that wipes the disk clean) and in both cases, the install went fine.
Even IE/OE had all the correct info, but...when you went to the "My
Programs", nothing was listed other then the basic items that Windows XP
installed. The Office Suite was gone, you name it.
However if you did a Find File, the folders for all the programs were
still there, but the actual program that the shortcut referred to was not
there, so none of the programs could be used.
I went back to Windows 98SE and tried again, but the exact same result.

Any idea of info on this one ? Both Units were Compaq Presario's and
according to the Win Upgrade advisor would upgrade fully with only a few
programs not working.
Thanks !
