The recent documents folder facility may not yet be applied.
To add it to the start menu, right click on a blank area of the taskbar and
click 'properties'. On the panel that opens, click 'customize'.
Click the 'advanced' tab, then tick the box at the foot of the panel 'List
my most recently opened documents'. Click 'OK', then 'apply' to exit the
properties menu.

Your default folder for new files is;
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\My Documents (Shortcut is
in your desktop [My Documents]).
You can see the complete route for any particular file in;
Start|Documents|right mouse click on icon|properties|Sortcut tab|destination
