View Full Version : Need to reformat

Hi,

I have big problems with my PC. I'm sure it is a driver problem, based on
the errors, but I can't figure out which drivers.
I finally give up, as I am now getting crashes, dumps, and the blue screen
of death daily now.
I plan to unplug all of my peripherals (Printer, scanner, ZIP, etc.) and
reinstall every item one at a time.
BUT... dumb as this may sound, I do not remember how to reformat my hard
drive with Windows XP.
I thought I could put the CD in when I booted, but that didn't work.
I want to completely start from scratch with a completely clean hard drive.
Can someone provide simple instructions?

Thank you so much!

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP Home CD in the CD Drive and reboot your
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the
existing
partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.
5. Windows XP Clean Install:

Thank you SO much! Great information, and a great XP reference web site!
I am going to write it down so I can find it again after I reformat!
